Women's Voices Theater Festival

2015-09-10_1430

Have you taken advantage of a theater festival going on right now in Washington D.C.? More than 50 of the Washington, D.C. region’s professional theaters are joining together to produce the Women’s Voices Theater Festival. The festival hopes to highlight the scope of new plays being written by women, and the range of professional theater being produced in the nation’s capital.

Each of the participating organizations will present at least one world premiere of a play by a female playwright during the six week period between Labor Day and Halloween, along with special events, panels and workshops to celebrate and support the work of women theater-makers.

Three of the theaters are part of our Apartments at CityCenter Privilege Card Program. If you are going to see a show at any of these theaters, see if your Privilege Card will get you a discount:

Ford’s Theatre is showing “The Guard” by Jessica Dickey from Sept. 25-Oct. 18. “The play opens in a modern-day art museum where three individuals yearn to experience first-hand the wonder and glory of Rembrandt’s work. When a museum guard decides to touch a famous Rembrandt painting, a remarkable journey across the ages ensues.” -Ford’s Theatre.

Shakespeare Theatre Company is showing “Salomé,” adapted and directed by Yaël Farber, from Oct. 6-Nov. 8. “Internationally acclaimed adaptor/director Yaël Farber infuses this raw New Testament tale with evocative sound and physicality, drawing on ancient biblical and pagan texts, as well as Oscar Wilde’s landmark mystery play, to spin a tale as provocative as the Dance of the Seven Veils.”-Shakespeare Theater Company.

Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company presents “Women Laughing Along with Salad” by Sheila Callaghan from Sept. 7-Oct. 4. “What’s on the menu for Meredith, Tori, and Sandy: The three women in Guy’s life? Healthy lifestyles, upward mobility, meaningful sex? Or self-loathing and distorted priorities? Award-winning playwright Sheila Callaghan serves up a world premiere on a bed of bawdy language in a gender-bending comedy vinaigrette.” –Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company
