One of the reasons we love the Apartments at CityCenter is that you are in the middle of everything. There are many ways to observe Black History Month in February, and many of the choices are close to home. Here are some ideas:
Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial: A visit to this memorial is a wonderful activity for this month.
National Archives: Celebrate Black History Month with films, public programs, and lectures. An exhibit honors the Tuskegee Airmen, and lecture subjects include The Long Emancipation: The Demise of Slavery in the United States and The Social Life of DNA: Race, Reparations, and Reconciliation After the Genome.
George Washington’s Mount Vernon Estate: Throughout the month of February Mount Vernon will honor the slaves who lived and worked at George Washington’s estate.
Frederick Douglass National Historic Site: Tours of the historic home at 1411 W St. SE, Washington, DC are available daily 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Guided tours are the only way to tour the house, and reservations are recommended. Frederick Douglass’ 198th birthday will be celebrated on Feb. 12-13.
